That's what those Squids did. You know the saying "LOVE OF THE GAME"? Well, those Squids loved that game TOO much. In the distant future, beyond the extinction of the human race, the Squids fused themselves to the deep-sea cables lying underneath the ocean floor. They got really into the Internet in general, but mostly, they got really into those online competitive Chess games. Unfortunately, spending untold eons playing internet Chess carries with it some severe psychic de-buffs. Those Squids are traumatized by what they've seen. You wouldn't even believe it.
