Have trouble growing in Survival mode? Don't know what to do, or where to go? New to the game? This guide can help you! Introduction Welcome! Do you have difficulty surviving? Are you a new player and need some guidance? Just bad at the game? This guide can help! Any information you can post in the comments will be greatly appreciated, since I have not thoroughly played every dinosaur and some information I receive may be incorrect. This map[vulnona.com] is extremely useful for navigation, and if you're new to the game, it might be beneficial to listen to these sounds[vulnona.com] if you want to get to know the dinosaurs better. Edited 5/2/2021 Survival Tips These are some basic guidelines I follow to ensure survival - They're optional, of course. 1. Do not trust anyone; be wary of even your own species. Personally, I only trust people if we've grouped and they talk in chat. 2. Never pass up a meal, even if you're full. 3. Never approach herbivores assuming they'll be friendly; They may not need to eat meat, but some are still bloodthirsty. 4. Scope out watering holes before drinking, and be very vigilant whilst doing so. 5. If you die, remember that it's just a game. Take note of how you died, what you did that lead up to that moment, and how to avoid it the next time. 6. Try to avoid going to popular water sources while growing. Wait until you're an adult, or at least quick enough to evade predators. The Very, Very Basics ! experienced players may want to skip this chapter ! Find yourself a server. Once you play for a while, you'll probably choose a favorite server. If you're new, though, it's going to be a bit confusing - There's so many servers, how do I choose? Well, if you prefer a more chaotic playstyle, official servers may be best. If you prefer a more realistic approach, I'd recommend Isla Nycta. IGParadise is a nice mix between the two. Hop into a server, choose your dinosaur, and create a skin. I like more camouflaged skins, personally. Keep in mind your playstyle - Darker skins are better for staying hidden or for ambushing during the night, and lighter skins are better for just being pretty. My usual skin is a mix between the two; Black, green, and a white underbelly. If you're picky about your skin, you can go onto a deathmatch server and create a skin on the adult version of your preferred dinosaur. Write the colors down and recreate the skin on the juvenile version. Now you're ready to survive! To view your stats, you'll need to open your character menu. This can be set to a keybind (The default is insert) or selected through the esc menu. You'll see a stomach, a water drop, and a foot. Mouse over them to see the percentages. The foot is your stamina; It pops up on the bottom right when you run and depletes as you run or jump, refilling when you stop doing those activities. It refills at different speeds depending on if you're sitting, running, or standing/walking. The water drop is your water. This can be filled up by, well, drinking water. Water does not go down when it's raining. The stomach is your hunger. This can be filled up by eating from gores, corpses, or plants (depending on what dinosaur you are) There's also a little oxygen meter that shows up if you swim for too long and your stamina depletes. When this depletes, you start taking drowning damage. Pressing esc will reveal to you your growth. If in legacy, it's usually 0.2 / 0.6 or something like that. Once you reach the amount on the right (in this example, 0.6), you need to manually click the growth button to be able to grow. However, in Evrima, this process is automatic. You can also view your growth % at the bottom of the character menu. Now on to more abilities: Scent! Scent can be set to a keybind which you have to hold to scent. If you scent while standing still, the animation is longer, so I do it while walking. However, herbivores can only scent while standing still. Once scent is activated, if in legacy, footprints will glow yellow, water sources will glow blue, and gore piles and blood will glow bright red. Herbivore plants will also glow green and have the smoke like gore piles do for carnivores. At the top of your screen, there will be a compass. In evrima, dots will appear leading you towards dinosaurs (yellow), water (blue), or food (red or green). It will not work in rain. You make less or more footprints based on how you are moving: (These are estimates) Crouched: 10% of the time Walk: 15% Trot: 30% Run: 70% The smaller you are (And the less mass you have), the less footprints you make. Nightvision! If you're on at night, you'll notice it gets really dark - Pitch black, almost. So, you need to turn on your night vision. The default key is N, but I prefer X. Nightvision makes a small area of light around your character (That's only visible to you). Some dinosaurs have horrible Nightvision, or NV, so it's wise to bunker down, especially if you're a herbivore. Ambushing Ambushing is a simple mechanic; As a carnivore (other than carno), crouch for a few seconds until a small icon appears on your stamina bar. Then, sprint out of the crouch, and you'll have a speed multiplier for a few seconds afterwards. Nesting! You may've heard about nesting, and, if you're new, may be a bit confused by it. As an adult female dinosaur, you'll be able to create a nest. If you sit on it for long enough, you'll see eggs appear inside of it (You can view their status by pressing E facing the nest and accessing the nest interface). You can invite friends (or really anybody) to it; If they accept the invite, they'll spawn in as a hatchling version of your dinosaur with a skin similar to yours. Hatchlings are slower, have far less stats than juvis, and just suck more overall. However, hatchlings can eat from your nest. If you put food into the nest (which takes from your hunger supply), then your children will be able to eat from it. Juvies, however, are not able to. If you're short on food, you may want to make your children wait a bit to grow into juveniles. Calls / Body Language The 1 Call - "Broadcast": This call is commonly referred to as the Broadcast; it is the loudest of all roars. It is usually neutral, but can be used along with the Aggressive roar to signify aggression as well. The 2 Call - "Friendly": This call is commonly referred to as the Friendly call; it sounds the friendliest, usually a soft or high-pitched roar. Though you may assume whatever's friendly calling you is, indeed, friendly, that is rarely true. Carnivores use it to lure in naive prey. The 3 Call - "Aggressive": This call is commonly referred to as the Aggressive call; it sounds threatening and is a bit quieter than the 1 call. If something 3 roars you, get away! The 4 Call - "Danger": This call is commonly referred to as the Danger call. I advise you only use it as a very last resort if being hunted, since making noise lowers your chance of escaping. The F Call: This call is the default F call, with no predetermined meaning. If a couple dinosaurs are frequently F-calling, it could indicate they are communicating with eachother in the ingame chat. Some use it as a substitution for the friendly call to lure in their prey, since some mistake it for just that, usually if the server has rules against luring in prey with the friendly call. Friendly-Crouching: Friendly-Crouching is a fairly common sign of friendliness, which consists in a dinosaur rapidly crouching and uncrouching. It can also be displayed using feign limp and resting. I have seen carnivores friendly-crouch up to prey and kill it, so be careful - A general rule is to never trust anything that friendly-crouches, and instead see if they walk away and rest. Discomfort: If a dino is uncomfortable, it will usually look uneasy, closely watching you and making sure not to let you get behind them. If you do not intend on attacking them, it's best to walk away and rest, showing you are not interested, but do 3 roar at them if they get too close for comfort. If you continue making them uncomfortable/scared, they might 3 roar you as a warning or attack you. Calmness: If a dino is laying down, usually near water, or in the open by a body, it is at ease. It will usually keep a close eye on you, since standing up to run takes time. If a dinosaur is resting, and quickly stands, entering a defensive stance then they see you, it is best to display passiveness if you don't intend on attacking. Protective: If a dino is sitting next to something, staying near one area, or circling around a small area, they may be guarding food, a nest, or other dinos. It's best to stay away from them, and only investigate if they walk far enough away. If they suddenly become extremely aggressive once you get near, they probably have babies to defend. Help/Danger: Herbivores will alert their herd if they see you with a 4 call, and it will put the rest of them at unease and ready to flee. A 1 call can be used to attract help, and a 4 call can be used along with it. If something broadcasts while you are hunting them, you should get ready to defend or run after you've killed it, since things such as rexes and allos like to check out loud calls. Get Away: If you don't show passiveness, a dinosaur may begin mock-hitting in your direction and 3 calling. This means you should get away quickly, or they may go on the offensive. Tracking/Footprints + Other Senses Info about scent is contained in "The Very, Very Basics" chapter. Scent When you use scent, footprints will appear as a bright, vibrant orangish yellow. The color does not show up with nightvision on, but footprints will be white, though more difficult to see, with nightvision and without scent. Use the footprint guide below to tell what you're hunting. You can also use other signs to your advantage - Blood turns a bright red, and water is viewed as a bright blue through the map. Prey may go to water, and blood can assist you in tracking. Hearing There are a couple ways of tracking using your hearing. First, there's the footsteps. Heavier, faster footsteps usually indicate running, and slow, soft footsteps means something is crouching. Then, there's the roaring - You can usually track something that's talking to group members in chat by following the F calls, while other things such as danger calls, aggro roars, etc, can help as well. Vision: If you ever see a figure rush through the bushes, don't think it's your imagination. There's a good chance something is, indeed, stalking you. Keep vigilant if you're hunting something, especially a carnivore, as they may lead you into a trap. Different Types of Footprints: Three-Toed: All Carnivores, Maia Back Feet (Trot, Run), Dryosaurus, Parasaur Back Feet (Trot, Run), Gallimimus --- 3 Thick Toes, Defined Claws: Rex/Giga Two Toes + 1 Nub: Utah Four Toes: Diablo Front Feet, Half-Foot with 3 Toes (No Claws): Diablo Back Feet, Para Front Feet (Walk), --- Middle Toe Rounded: Maisaur Front Feet (Walk) Gameplay Styles I will be listing two gameplay styles for each dinosaur. These are partially based off of the canonical dinosaur classes and off of my experience from playing the game. Crusher Crushers are dinosaurs that do lots of base damage, have low speed, and usually break bones. The apex of this class is the Rex. Bleeder Bleeders are dinosaurs that do lots of bleed and are quite quick, albeit at the cost of rather low base damage. The apex of this class is the Giga. Sprinter Sprinters are, usually smaller, dinosaurs that are usually weaker, although have superior speed compared to the other classes. The apex of this class is the Carno. Nocturnal Nocturnal dinosaurs are active mainly during the dusk, dawn, and night. They usually have decent night vision. Diurnal Diurnal dinosaurs are active mainly during the day. They usually have subpar night vision. --- CARNIVORES --- Below will be every carnivore included in Evrima. [Format used:] SPECIES: ... Gameplay Styles: Pref.
