Now, the pink bars are wider, meaning there's more variation in possible outcomes. It might take more tries to get a baby with the highest potential, but that's just part of the process. If you don't want to risk your best breeding pair, you can use a "leftover" animal from earlier breeding attempts and pair it with the new one. Their babies might be a better match for your main animals later on. Nice! You’ve completed the first half of the process. Now it’s time to move on to Fertility and Immunity. Stage 2: Fertility & Immunity QUICK NOTE: Before diving into this section, make sure you’ve bred animals with 100% in Size and Longevity. If you haven’t done that yet, I recommend starting there first. It’ll make it a lot easier if you aim to breed genetically perfect animals. In Planet Zoo, every animal has hidden “gene letters” that determine how good their traits like Fertility (how easily it can have babies), and Immunity (how well it can avoid getting sick) are. These gene letters are A, B, C and D, and come in pairs, like this: AA, AB, BB, CD, and so on. Each animal has 6 pairs for Fertility, and 6 pairs for Immunity. These gene pairs come in different sequences and help determine how strong or weak that animal is in those traits. To access this, click on an animal and go to tab number 5 at the top called “Studbook”. At the bottom of the page, you can go to “View Genealogy”. How do these Gene Pairs Work?If the two letters in a pair are different (like AB or CD), it’s a mixed pair. These pairs contribute 16,7% to the trait in question. If the two letters are identical (like AA or BB), it’s an identical pair. These pairs contribute 0% to the trait in question. So, what this means: - 6 mixed pairs = 100% in that trait - 6 identical pairs = 0% in that trait Let’s say your animal has a Fertility sequence of: AA CB AD CC BA DB In this example you can find four mixed pairs and two identical pairs. This means that the four mixed pairs each contribute 16.7% to the Fertility trait, which results in a total of 66.8% ~ 67% in-game. How do Babies Inherit Gene Pairs?When two animals breed, each gene pair in the baby is formed by randomly selecting one letter from each parent’s pair - at the same position. Stay with me, I’ll explain. Let’s say you have two parents with these Fertility sequences: Male: DD CC CC BB AA CC Female: CC CC CC BB AA CC In this case, the first pair in each parent is DD (male) and CC (female). When they breed, the game will randomly select one letter from the male and one from the female, meaning that the baby’s first gene pair may have several possible combinations. In this case though, the game will select the letter D from the male, and the letter C from the female. Therefore, the offspring’s first gene pair will be CD or DC , which is a mixed pair, resulting in +17% to their Fertility trait. The same thing happens to all 6 pairs. If only one pair ends up mixed , then the baby only gets 17% Fertility. How do You Get 100%?I've found there are two ways to get an animal with 100% in Fertility and Immunity. Of course, there may be more, but these are the ones that work for me. Method 1: Two Parents with 100% As mentioned previously, if both animals have 100% in a trait, all their gene pairs are mixed (AB, DC, BD, etc.) Breeding these animals gives you a chance of producing a baby with 100% in the trait, although the outcome can range anywhere from 0-100%. Why? Because letter selection is random, and sometimes it will create an identical pair like AA or BB, which gives 0% to the trait. Example: - Male: AB BC DA BD CD DC - Female: BC DC AB DA BD CD In each pair, there’s a chance the baby gets two of the same letter by accident. The baby’s first gene pair might end up being AB, AC, BB or BC, which means there is a 25% chance that the baby’s first pair will be identical and therefore contribute 0% to the trait. When you multiply this across all 6 pairs, you see why there’s a wide range of possible outcomes when it comes to breeding these parents. ❗I would argue that this method is the easiest one, as it doesn't complicate things too much. If you go for method 2 below, you'd have to keep a closer eye on each animal's gene pairs, and also keep certain animals from breeding. ❗ Method 2: Two Parents with 0% As mentioned earlier, if both animals have 0-1% in a trait, all their gene pairs are identical (AA, BB, CC, DD). If you breed these animals, their baby will have guaranteed 100% in that trait, but only if the pair sequence differs between them. Good example (guaranteed 100%): - Male: AA BB CC DD AA CC - Female: BB CC DD AA BB DD Bad example (guaranteed 0%): - Male: AA BB CC DD AA CC - Female: AA BB CC DD AA CC In the bad example, every pair combines into the same letters in the baby, and in the same sequence. This means that the baby will have 0% in the trait, just like its parents. The goal is to have the baby inherit 6 mixed pairs from its parents. How do I Start?So, you now have one male and one female with 100% in Size and Longevity. Let’s look at the Fertility and Immunity potential in their babies. You’ll need to decide which method to use, based on what the baby’s potential looks like. If the baby’s potential looks like this:
