Max Scores Information in this section may not be 100% accurate. These numbers were found by using information from the COTW wiki rating page[thehuntercotw.fandom.com]. The wiki states that the diamond score is achieved from scoring 90% or more of the maximum score. Therefore, the diamond ratings should be 90% of the maximum possible score. The formula used to find the tentative maximum scores is (90 x Max Score) / 100 = Diamond Rating. This guide is a simple to understand easy guide to track and stalk any animal. Layton Lakes is notorious for the amount of foliage it has due to how hard it is to see compared to any other map but that's the secret joy to this map you see. It trains you in stalking so right you cant get it wrong, don't skip it and go to African Savannah and keep your bad habits especially on the multiplayer spooking everything in sight with wild long shots with under powered cartridges. It will help you see animals that are really elusive as well. I just started playing this game and I already got my first diamond at lvl 16 by bumping into him at 40 meters by understanding stalking took some trial and error but i got it down. Though there are times you can get lucky and spot one but its usually when glassing need zones. This ain't going to be ambushing either, we ain't in one place using a caller or scents. This it just the simple track, stalk, and shoot. It takes a lot of patience. If you don't got none of that, then do what you always been doing, don't worry you'll get one by luck maybe. That happens a lot too. Mechanics For Sound First and number one rule and biggest rule: Dont wear backpacks... You are to be light as a feather, cause everything within a 300 meter radius will hear you coming, just take it off. It effects the sound meter at the bottom right of the screen near the eye, It may also effect sight due too how larger you appear to be with the back pack on so make sure its off. Each animal can spot you due to eyesight, sound, and smell. They all have hidden parameters on how far they can see hear and smell you as well. Hunting a moose is going to be way easier stalking than say stalking a coyote. Coyotes have better sense of smell and are more skittish more liable to bolt even if they only heard without smell or sight of you at times. Moose tend be blind as a bat but can hear you decently. They make up for that by being tough for newcomers to kill till you get the right bullets. Red Sound Indication/ Loud:When it comes to sound it will reach up to three bars, after that it will go up to red if your way too loud. From rustling bushes and trees too craggy rocks. They can hear you out to 200+ meters if just the first red bar shows on the sound meter. You will get warning calls then they will flee right away. If it shows red. Your mainly running or going through some thick bush or stomping on stones. Full sound indication/ Three White Bars: 150 Meters Walking is usually where you still get a lot of warning calls from animals around you but they still could flee so its usually best to start crouch walking at least around 170 meters of your targeted need zone to not spook what your hunting. Half sound indication/ Two White lines: The two white line means as long as they don't see you should be able to get around 80 to 50 meters with out spooking them, if you have been as patient as you can be. Fast crawling also can also get you with in range but its better cause you limit how much your being seen. if your still crouched up while fast crouch walk you may still get seen by the animal so stay near trees and bushes to help reduce your signature to the animals around you. Slow Stalk/ One White line: This will get you as close as you want to get to pretty much any animal in the game. Its takes the most patience out of you cause at the start of the game you wont have the tag ability yet to see your animal and you wont have the perks yet. its good to completely stop and come to a crouch to look at the animal from time to time. Still remember to move among the tree line to make sure they cant see you. Some people get frustrated with long stalking game but I promise you its really rewarding. I once stalked passed three coyotes to get to a bear I was hunting the temptation was insane cause coyotes are rare but in the end I got my bear. Plus you can always use the same tactic for coyotes and foxes which are the most elusive animals in game. BIGGEST TIP EVER: NEVER STALK GAME UPHILL! For newcomers you should only stalk game parallel to the mountain, hill, or down hill due to the dense foliage. Those trees are insanely dense on Layton lakes. Its wise to not stalk uphill in Layton due to how the sight lines are some times non existent, just let the animal go and don't waste your time. I speak from a lot of bad experiences while doing that. Plus I've caught more animals within my sight traveling and tracking downhill simply due to the fact the distance you can see them is far better. Just wait till you get the perk that makes your tag last longer when you spot them. It will make stalking uphill more worth it later on. Also be careful where you step some shrubs and bushes and rocky surfaces will make more noise go around the rocks and slow stalk through the bushes and trees. Mechanics for Sight and Smell Now that we got sound out of the way lets talk about Sight and Smell. Then I will Talk about the four or fives perks that will turn you into a wilderness ninja. Sight will be based on the small circle that's on the left of the sound indicator. I'm going make this quick cause this one isn't really hard to understand. Full circle: You are seen by everything around you out to 200 meters Oval/Almond shape: Can be see till up to 100 to 150. Depends on the animals sight and senses. Moose cant see you very well so you can still get somewhat close. Coyotes and foxes can see you still pretty easily still. Bears and Deers...it depends on there level. Half circle/Sunset:Animals have a hard time seeing you but again depending on there level they can spot you, but surprisingly you can get really close around 40 to 70 meters or closer if your well hidden. Horizontal line: You are hidden. Animals can get to 5 to 10 meters till they spot you Transparent horizon line/No line: Animals can brush pass you and not notice you at all. Wind will also have an effect on how well the animals can spot you. Its simple the wind changes at about every three or two hours in game it seems. Just make sure the Green winds cone isn't facing the need zone that has the animals your trying to hunt. Make sure its facing behind you or beside you. BIG TIP NUMBER TWO: POOPS! Animal poops are really good for indicating how far you are from the animal when your stalking it. Here's how you can tell: Very Old: 200 meters to 300+ meters away Old: 100 meters to 150 meters away Fresh: 60 meters to 100 meters away Very fresh: 40 meters to 60 meters away Lastly the last thing I will talk to you about is the weather. Mainly the two forms of weather status that will aid you in stalking about, and those two are foggy weather and rain. When these two weather effects being around, your going to wish it happens a lot more often cause it dulls animals senses so that sight and sound are halved for them. Its great! Put perks in that at the same time as well and they will never see you there. I'm pretty much going to talk about that in the next section. That's it for the poops. Now onto the Last Section in order to train you into wilderness ninja you were always meant to be. Skills & Perks This wont be long either. The main skills you want are: Im only happy when it rains. Soft feet weather prediction Disturbed Vegetation Innate TriangulationOnly Go after these skills after you gotten all the tracking skills such as Locate tracks and track knowledge. Connect the dots is optional. once you maxed out the other two track skills. The tag perk is one you want to get to make sure you can see where your game is headed too or deal with the problem of uphill stalking. When it comes to rifle perks make sure you get the zeroing perk. it helps with taking the shot at the game your stalking. Remember one shot one kill, wasted ammunition is more money out your pocket and the longer it will take to track your animal. Remember to Push the R button when using binoculars to tell the range of said animal early on cause you don't have a range finder at the start. The Default range for all rifles is 75 meters. Happy hunting! If you gotten this far thank you for reading my guide and may your hunt be easy and shots true. God bless. Stalking is quite difficult cause the game doesn't do quite a good job at telling you how to do it properly. Through my experience hopefully you learned some thing and become a better stalker overall.
Setup: Set "Hide all animal clues" to ON. Set Manual Reload and Manual Chambering to ON. This guide is for roleplaying a realistic hunting trip in the Layton Lakes game reserve. Layton Lakes comes with the base game and does not require any DLC; however, there will be rules on DLC content within this guide. Layton Lakes Reserve-wide Regulations The following regulations must be followed at all times regardless of location on the map: Do not discharge a firearm within 150 yards of inhabited structures (abandoned structures and hunting structures do not count towards this). B R U H G I V E A L I K E T O G U I D E O K T H X B Y E Wish I had this guide when I started T H E V E R Y B E G I N N I N G When you start the game, you have no skills, no ammo, and worst of all, you are on Leyton Lakes. Leyton Lakes is an area where the moose and elk roam. These guys take 7mm and laugh it off (one of the most powerful guns in the game which you will grind for). BEFORE YOU EVEN BEGIN THE WHOLE SHOOTING THING Hit ESC Goto SYSTEM Hit GAME Immediately change your ACTIVE TRACK/CLUE COLOR to something else than the color the sadistic devs picked. Something that will not blend into your reserve (yeah, cyan and white works GREAT on snow maps, devs!). Go magenta, pink, orange, whatever but cyan or white. SPOTTING OUTLINE COLOR - of course also change it. I go with hot cerisse, cuz I am manly like that (it's C E R I S S E, not pink, don't get it twisted). IMMEDIATE STEP 2 FOR NEW PLAYER: 1) hit M for map 2) Press H to change reserve 3) Choose Hirschfeld Ahh, much better. This is the home of Roe Deer, the dumbest, stupidest animals in the game. You can literally run into them, wait a few seconds, and spam the ROE CALLER to get them back. Shoot those roes for xp points and money. You probably will notice (unless you are as dumb as a roe) that this reserve does not ONLY have roes. There are all kinds of animals. Hit ESC, go to WILDLIFE. Read up on the animals. Whateva, blah blah lore, blah blah nature. 2 most important things to note: AMMUNITION CLASS and CALLER TYPE. You can shoot and maybe even kill an animal with wrong ammo type - but you get less points for it (and less money?). Because it is unethical. YOU CAN SHOOT AN ANIMAL TWO TIMES ONLY, WITH CORRECT AMMO, AND AT LEAST ONE ORGAN MUST BE HIT. Make it a lung, it's easiest. At the beginning, shoot ANYTHING THAT MOVES that has a chance to die. For example, using a 270 on an elk or a moose is very.... iffy. So grind away, using your correct guns with correct ammo, while spamming the callers on Hirsch. W H A T T O G R I N D F O R: GUNS 270, then 7mm. 7mm will open up the maps for you, giving you a chance to take out bears, moose and elk. B R U H W H A T S K I L L S F I R S T Glad you asked, so I will tell you how to avoid the mistake that me and 99% other new players make. They start with STALKER skills. %$^%$^$%$%^ NOOOO!!!! Mistaaaaaaake! Here's wut yah do: Go AMBUSHER 1 point in scent tinkererererer 3 in spotting knowledge 1 in dazed and confused and finally, what you REALLY want: SIGHT SPOTTING - this allows you to spot animals using your rifle scope. Recommend you stay in AMBUSHER and put 2 points into FATAL ATTRACTION But you are probably tired of chasing your "kills" (heheheh) which have a tendency to run alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll over the daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang map. Most of the time you have your nose to the ground, while doing your best to follow the tracks. Goto STALKER now LOCATE TRACKS 3 points TRACK KNOWLEDGE 3 points SOFT FEET 2 points If you REALLY have trouble tracking your animal, start with Locate Tracks.... but then immediately switch to ambusher and follow this guide. W T F B R U H I S H O T I T 5 0 T I M E S L O W B L E E D R U N S F O R E V E R Ahhh, you must shoot it correctly. You must penetrate AT LEAST ONE vital organ. Otherwise it will run forever and you will explore a lot of the map trying to track the kill. The Hunter COTW Wiki has great pictures of where to shoot each animal i.e. where its internal vital organs are. Go to this page, hit CNTL-F to find, type in animal name, ENTER. Click on said animal, on each animal page there is a picture with its internal vital organs. https://thehuntercotw.fandom.com/wiki/TheHunter:_Call_of_the_Wild_Wiki B R U H W U T D L C? Yah want tents and tripods. That's it, really. Sometimes treestands are good, situational - thankfully its the same DLC with tripods. For the record, I bought almost ALL DLC. All reserves for variety, tripods, geese, tents, ATV to vroom vroom and scare every animal within 300m radius, dLC with the crossbow, AND THE HIGH TECH DLC WITH NIGHTVISION AND BOWSIGHT cuz I keep it real. For printing money, recommend WILD GOOSE CHASE. Setup 20 geese decoys on a field, lay the cool laydown camouflage blind about 25metres away, and equip two (2, yes 2!!) Strecker shotguns. Buy a lot of birdshot ammo for those Streckers. Grab a goose caller. Get into the laydown blind, and start printing money. Boring but if you are having no luck in a "normal" hunt, do this.
