Chapter 2A: Vehicle Dynamics Understanding the fundamentals of vehicle dynamics. In part A of Vehicle Dynamics we will be discussing the basics including terminology, driver inputs and slip angle. This will be the foundation for much of what we cover in the driving school so be sure to pay close attention. Chapter 2B: Vehicle Dynamics How driver inputs affect your tires. Part B of Vehicle Dynamics talks about tire grip, load transfer and gives you some tips on where to practice what we have covered. Tires are your only connection to the racing surface so understanding how they work and their limitations is critical if you are to get the most out of your car. Chapter 3A: Fundamentals of the Racing Line & Cornering Mastering the Line: In part A of Fundamentals of the Racing Line & Cornering we will break down a corner into its three basic parts: turn-in, apex and track-out. We will also show you what makes the optimal radius of a corner and why that matters. Chapter 3B: Fundamentals of the Racing Line & Cornering Defining Corner Types: Part B of Fundamentals of the Racing Line & Cornering focuses on the different types of corners you will encounter on a racetrack. Understanding the differences is crucial when trying to find the perfect line. Chapter 3C: Fundamentals of the Racing Line & Cornering Putting it All Together: Part C of Fundamentals of the Racing Line & Cornering covers the importance of putting the corners in perspective - what is before the corner, what is after. There is more than one way around a corner and understanding the big picture will bring your lap times down. Chapter 4: Using Your Eyes Your eyes are your most important tool when you are on a racetrack. We'll cover the importance of looking ahead and why it is even more critical when sim racing (as opposed to racing in the physical world). Chapter 5A: Braking Technique Proper braking is one of the hardest skills to master when racing. Part A of Braking discusses the various techniques you will need to employ to be a successful racer. You will learn the difference between threshold braking, brush braking and trail braking. Chapter 5B: Braking Technique Load Transfer, Modulation and Brake Points: Part B of Braking will discuss brake bias, brake lock-up and braking points, as well as provide some exercises for you to practice various braking techniques. Chapter 6: Downshifting Downshifting covers why we need to shift (hint: it is not to slow the car down), heel and toe technique and the various types of shifting controls found in racecars. Chapter 7A: Race Craft & Passing - Understanding Race Craft Understanding Race Craft Part A of Race Craft and Passing discusses the golden rule of passing, running your own race so you can make a pass and finding the right spot to make a pass. Chapter 7B: Race Craft & Passing - Technique Part B of Race Craft and Passing covers passing using the draft, passing in the brake zone and being smart when making a pass or getting passed. Remember, you can't win if you don't finish. Chapter 7C: Race Craft & Passing - Etiquette We cover passing etiquette (who's corner is it), defensive driving and general race awareness in this chapter. Racing courteous is racing smart. Chapter 8A: Race Starts - Surviving Turn 1 The start of a race is the most tension filled part. Most incidents occur here and it is vital to prepare yourself to get through the start. Part A of Race Starts discusses preparation - both mental and physical. Where are you starting the race? What should you be prepared for? How can you best position your car, and therefore survive turn 1? Chapter 8B: Race Starts Types of Starts: Part B of Race Starts covers the various types of starts you will encounter at iRacing - rolling starts and standing starts. When can I go? When can I pass? What do the lights mean? Your number one goal should be getting through the start, not trying to win in turn 1. We give you some strategies to help you get there. Chapter 9: Pre-Race Testing, Practice and Time Trials: There is more to iRacing than racing. In this chapter we discuss the different session types including Practice, Time Trials and Qualifying. We'll give you some strategies to maximize your time on track which will help you get the most out of iRacing. What is Blocking?
