Guide completely describing about Woodie and his gameplay for inexperience and experienced players as well. Just some precaution I wrote this guide because players were often confused about how Woodie works in DST. The point of this guide is to explain that Woodie is actually great and handy character. This guide was written from my experiences (except parts where i credit Don't Starve wiki). Woodie - His role One simply does not run out of logs with this character. Because of his choping and time saving abilities, Woodie can provide infinite ammount of logs, making some crafting items expensive in wood much easier to make. This character excels in cooperation with other players. Inexperienced players however might have problem with insanity, often resulting into death by Terrorbeaks, but if you follow this guide and you're able to learn fullmoon cycles, Woodie might be ideal character for you. Woodie has the ability to recover sanity very quickly, which makes him very effective in seasons that have long dusk and night segments. It's also easier to live on sanity harmful food, such as Monster meat jerky, or cooked monster meat only, considering you can recover health somehow. I have been playing Woodie in the original Don't Starve.. are there any character differences between these two games? Yes. It can be basically said Woodie is most changed character in DST so far (aside from Willow & Maxwell). Woodie lost his remarkableness at cost of actual game balance. While singleplayer Woodie was character that could just live in beaver mode because of how overpowered it was, DST version is actually well balanced. Basic character information Woodie is a canadian lumberjack with a beard, which provides him slightly more insulation against freezing, but because of that, he overheats a bit faster in summer. His beard does not grow and it's unshavable, because a True lumberjack never shaves, not to mention he has bones in there, just like most characters has bones in hair. Health: 150 Hunger:150 Sanity: 200 Beaverness / log meter: 100 Uncategorized facts: (Credit goes to the page listed below). - Woodie is 40+ years old Canadian with some kind of hatred for birds. Also like real Canadian, he apologizes alot and Honey nuggets/Turkey dinner/Pierogioes are his favorite food avaliable in the game. - He was probably scout in childhood (according to some examination quotes, and also upcoming skin set. It doesn't mean it's official though). - He has an "official" page [curse-of-the-lumberjack.tumblr.com] - This page mostly acts as a fan page (fan pics and stories), but you can sometimes find interesting/upcoming content there, such as Upcoming skins sets [curse-of-the-lumberjack.tumblr.com] (watch on your own risk). The third perk explained I say "third perk" because it's different for Americans, Canadians and the rest. US: "Celebrates thanksgiving too early" Canada: "Celebrates thanksgiving at the correct time" Others: "Is thankful for bountiful harvests" This perk basically means whenever Woodie befriends mob, it will follow him for 2x longer time than other characters. For example: Giving morsel to a pig results in follow time of one day, unlike half-of the day for other characters. Every meat with meat value 0,5 (morsel, frog legs, drum stick, fish/eel, batilisks wing) grants follower for one day. Meat with meat value 1,0 (meat, monster meat) will grant a follower for 2 days. Because one pig can be allied up to 2,5 days, it's best to feed the pig only with one monster meat and feed it again after 1,5 days. Woodie VS Maxwell Ever thought these characters are actually similar? Yup, they are, so hence I decided to make comparison between them and define who is better at which situation. Maxwell is able to summon minions that can assist him in choping, diging, mining and fights. Meanwhile this sounds cool on paper, it doesn't work that much in the game, because minions are often incredibly unintelligent. Choping trees Maxwell's Shadow loggers chop any tree around him and Maxwell, ignoring their size, which means they chop even small trees that has no seeds. Woodie chops trees faster than maximum amount of loggers Maxwell can summon, even in human form. When Treeguard appears, shadow loggers starts to follow Maxwell's kitting pattern with little effort left to chop the trees around them. Mining boulders Nothing to say. Woodie is alone while Maxwell can summon miners and outnumber Woodie. Maxwell wins. Diging stumps Shadow digger digs only stumps, not sapplings. Maxwell again outnumbers Woodie, but the fun fact is: Woodie doesn't care about stumps. Head to Tree farm section if you wanna read the reason. Fighting Maxwell can have only two duelists at a time and has only 75 health points. That is so small amount that most bosses and depthworms can kill you in single hit in case of no protetction. Woodie has double befriend time for pigs and bunnies, that can be enhanced by giving football helmet. He also has 150 health points so I would personaly rather stick to Woodie over Maxwell. Sanity management Maxwell is the only character in game that has passive sanity regeneration: 6,66 sanity per minute, same as Tam O' Shanter. This negates dusk/night effect, but makes nightmare fuel farming harder, unless you summon enough shadows to keep your sanity at low. Woodie has active sanity regeneration as he gets +5 sanity per planted pinecone. This + ability to become insane easily means much easier nightmare fuel farms. Summing it up, Woodie pretty much beats Maxwell in most straight-paced terms. He also don't require flint for begining to get some sources and his bit higher warm insulation makes him handy at surviving in public servers, especially during winter spawn. Log meter Log meter has 100 points. Once it gets to 25 points, Woodie becomes beaver. When it gets to 0 points, Woodie will starve and lose health, but this problem occurs only during fullmoon. Log bar decreases slowly (very quickly at fullmoon night) over time and when player chops trees with his axe. One fully grown tree (9 hits) consumes around 12 points from log bar to be chopped down. Log bar can be increased by Eating: MaterialPoints Reccomended: Living logs50YesBoards15NoLogs10YesTwigs5YesCut grass1NoCut reeds1No Common logs are best variant for Woodie; always accesible. Living logs gives nice ammount of points, but use them only when you have plenty of them, othervise better use for them is to make items in magic and ancient tab. Twigs are good only when you don't have any logs. Other materials does not worth eating. Cut grass gives almost nothing, so do cut reeds whose are scarce and you need 4 logs to make single board, resulting into 2,5 logs lose upon eating. Not to mention Woodie is also probably alergic to cut grass and he won't be glad if you force him to eat it. His axe, Lucy will comment and alert player when Woodie begins to transform. Lucy the axe Lucy is Woodie's starting and also special item. She has infinite durability and Woodie chops trees 3x faster with her. It takes 3 seconds to chop large tree, 2 seconds to chop medium tree and one second to chop small tree. Lucy can be also used as a weapon, but she deals only 13,6 damage, so if you have to fight in very early gameplay, craft common axe instead. If your Lucy is far away from you and you need to use her immediately, you can craft common axe and make first chop. The axe in your hand becomes Lucy. Lucy cannot be stolen by other players. Lucy will talk to woodie upon certain circumstances, quotes indicating something more serious listed below (credit goes to Don't starve wiki): When put in a container: "It's dark in here!" "I'm scared!" "I can't see anything!" "I hate it in here." (Lucy will do these sounds often, which gets actually pretty annoying.) Picked up when already holding another Lucy "You can't have Two Lucys!" "You two-timer!" "You can't have him! He's mine!" "But I'M your one and only Lucy!" Approaching transformation (low): "Are you OK?" "Why are you making that face?" "It's just a tree! Calm down!" Approaching transformation (med): "Don't chop too fast. You know what will happen!" "You might want to slow down a bit." "Woodie? Can you hear me?" "Hey, hey, have a woodchip Approaching transformation (high): "Woodie! Be careful!" "The transformation is starting!" "Watch out! You're going to turn!" When Woodie comes from low points to high back without transforming (by eating materials): "That was a close one!" "I think we'll be alright." "You're looking much better now." "It's passed. For now." "It's back in the lodge. Phew!" When Woodie transforms: "It happens again!" "The Curse!" "I warned you." When Woodie turns back: "You're back!" "Quick! Pick me up!" "Are you OK?" "Don't let that happen again!" "Everything is going to be fine. Just focus!" Picked up by another character: "You're not Woodie!" "Put me down!" I don't know you." "Stranger danger!" "Help! I'm being kidnapped!" Haunted by a Ghost character: "Ouch, that hurts." "You're looking boo-tiful today." "I'm white as a sheet" "Boo who?" "ooOOoooOO to you, too." "Now I'm a HAUNTED axe." Rapid clicking method: Even faster choping This doesn't work only for Woodie, but for all characters. Woodie can still save even more time choping trees, so i think i should mention this. Whenever you're choping or mining, you can do it even faster when you properly rapidly click mouse button This only works with movement prediction being turned off, I wrote another guide on how to do it. Transforming into (Were)Beaver Once Woodie's log meter gets to 25 points, Woodie will drop his equiped items (excluding backpack) and turns into Beaver. Being beaver: - Your sanity decreases by 1,6 points per second - Grants you nightvision (you cannot die by Charlie - The night monster) - Hunger bar is replaced by log bar. You don't lose hunger being beaver, but you can still starve if log bar reaches 0 points - Gives you 20% protection and ability to attack enemies, but gnawing is weak and should be used only in terms of obtaining materials. - Your temperature will decrease/increase slower, so don't worry about freezing/overheating. - His gnaw works like Axe/Pickaxe/Shovel/Hammer. Doing these activities refill the Log meter back Source nameNumber of gnawsHow much sources to fullfill meterAdult tree419Medium tree325Small tree238Petrified adult tree126,5Petrified medium tree98,5Petrified small tree612,5Petrified overadult tree325Boulder184Sapling/Tuft/Bush325 In early gameplay, your job is to chop lone adult Evergreens/Birchtrees and eat logs to delay transform. However, if you spot adult Evergreen forest, this is excelent time to transform . A) Considering all trees are adult, you'll get atleast 2,5 stacks of logs and stack of Pine cones. B) You will get your beaverness meter back to 100 points. Not ideal places to transform:

理想的变形地点:

If you're playing on public server, always unequip your clothes before transforming (except backpacks) as other players can steal them.Few things are worse than lose (for example) Beefalo hat, because random player picks it and then sets on journey, which results into his death in unknown location. If some players picks up all Logs and Pine cones meanwhile you're beaver, tell them to atleast return Pine cones/Birchnuts, these are your priority. If you die as beaver and somebody ressurects you, you'll still be beaver, so be prepared to finish what you started, before you'll be insane again. Sanity management - Pinecone rule Another sort of things you will encounter in dst is enourmous number of players who use Pine cones only as fuel or leave them on ground. This results in tree/forrest decimation and these players must later move far away from base to find some trees, altrough it wouldn't hurt them to simply plant these, cones instead of using them as small fuel for fire. Klei made great solution for Pine cones, as they are now important part of Woodie gameplay. One will become insane easily being in beaver form, but planting pine cone gives you +5 sanity. Woodie has 200 sanity and you need to plant 40 pinecones to get from absolute insanity to complete sanity. After you spawn in the world, choping large Evergreens/Birch trees should be first thing you do alongside with collecting grass/twigs/flints and mining boulders. Because Pine cones are answer for maintaining Woodie's sanity, you should get atleast 20 of them as soon as possible, so that you can transform into beaver once you spot forrest without being afraid of sanity wreck. Tree farms - how to make them correctly Once you set your place for base, you must dedicate some space for tree farms. This area: A) Shouldn't contain anything else flamable, because there are stumps left after the trees. There is no point to dig/gnaw them, because it takes 3 gnaws and that is just not worth it. Once there is field of stumps, just simply torch it. Burning stumps will emit heat and light for couple of seconds and you can farm ashes that way. Ashes can be used in healing salves (survival craft) to heal 20 health points, which is extremely profitable way to upgrade spider glands. B) Shouldn't be close to hostile creature sources. Never plant trees in dangerous areas such as opened cave entrances, spider dens, ponds and other sources spawning enemies. Beaver has only 20% protection and his gnaw is weak - these enemies will slow down your work, forcing you to stay in beaver mode longer and making you insane even more. You should consider planting pine cones in groups just in case of fire, so that you lose only one group instead of all the trees you have planted. Once you have atleast 4-6 groups, you can keep them as sanity heal provision. If you have build ice flingomatic, you can forget about grouping. Just don't forget to refuel it. Tree farm should be made in day 5/6, so that pine cones has enough time to grow into Adult trees on day 11 (where first Fullmoon occurs) for maximizing Woodie's potential in terms of gathering wood. Fullmoon: Woodie's biggest (dis)advantage? When Fullmoon comes, Log meter will automatically reach 25 points and Woodie will turn into Beaver. Log meter decreases by 1,4 points per second And if you don't start to gnaw trees/ eat something immediately, you will starve because of empty log meter. However, fullmoon is the only time where you're able to spend whole night gnawing trees down in beaver form 9x faster than other characters. Combined with decent tree farm, this results into extreme amount of logs/pinecones/birchnuts in single night. Beaver can gnaw one Adult tree in slightly more than one second, so look at the time of fullmoon night and calculate yourself how many Logs/Cones can be obtained in single night. I suggest you to subscribe client mod (works on any server) called "Combined Status". You can choose in settings to show actual moon phase, so you will know when fullmoon comes. Extremely usefull mod with Woodie, which may save lives. It takes 5/6 days from Pine cone to Adult tree. DayTime(sec)Sanity Loss 11 90 145+ 31180200 Plant atleast 50/60 trees for first fullmoon and 100+ trees for second fullmoon. You should always prepare more trees than you can gnaw just to reach your maximum limit. Next fullmoon is always 20 days later. Sanity loss is meant only when you spend whole night in beaver form. It's accurate in short nights, but unpredictable in long nights. If you also think it's way too huge loss, then remind yourself you'll get enough pinecones to refill all the sanity back atleast twice. Sometimes you can have unlucky timing: such as fullmoon and upcoming hound wave. This is the reason to use trap weapons, whose will distract/kill attackers, leaving unarmed beaver alone and let him do his job. - Using Bee mine and forcing treeguard to step on it results in his distraction by bees. Even the smallest Treeguard can one-hit-kill bee, but bees unfortunately has kiting AI, very similar to pigs, so they should be able to dodge it. - Tooth traps are ideal as well against hounds. 3 toothtraps can kill normal hound and 2 toothtraps kills fire/ice hound. However, Fire hound death might result into forest burn most likely, so you will have to find enough gears to make Ice flingomatics you can turn on before fullmoon comes. - Willow's Bernie bear distracts nightmarish creatures in area around him. Woodie pairs well with Willow. (Sure, toothtraps are expensive due to tooths, but hounds shouldn't occur on first fullmoon, and Fire hounds, whose are biggest threat to Woodie starts to spawn in first Summer and second Autumn). I didn't make Tree farm and im too far away from forest, what should i do? A) Gnaw some trees you find around and eat logs to immediately transfrom back. Then spend Fullmoon eating materials. B) Disconnect, wait until night ends and reconnect back (better solution, no sanity loss and no material loss). Evergreens and Treeguards EvergreenBasic tree. Small Evergreen drops 1 log and no pinecones. Medium one drops 2 logs and one pinecone. Large one drops 3 logs and 2 pinecones (and each other has additional log you can obtain by digging stumps with shovel/gnawing them). This tree is crucial for Woodie, as it grows in every season, droping always 2 pinecones in largest version. Lumpy Evergreen Same as Evergreen, but never drops any pinecone. Not recommended tree for Woodie. Totaly normal tree Tree surrounded by evil flowers - you will loose sanity in his area. You can chop it for 2 living logs and dig the stump for additional Living log. Choping the trees can spawn Treeguard(s) from other Evergreens. Treeguard is a large living tree, who wants to punish you for your crimes against nature. The bigger tree he woke up from, the bigger he is, the more health he has and the more damage he deals. He goes after the most current attacker or player choping trees. These treeguards will fight you in close range. You can try to pacify him by planting pinecones back. If you succeed, it will stop to go after you (unless you starts to chop trees again in his range, or attack another Treeguard). Pigs and some other mobs will automatically attack treeguard, often resulting into their quick death. After being redirected, if you don't attack him or chop any other trees, he will remain calm, going back into his tree form at night. Their loot is always 6 Living logs + Monster meat. Size Health DMG to players DMG to mobs 1 2100 35 105 2 3000 50 150 3 3750 62 186 On the other side, if you spawn one in winter, think twice before you'll start to plan how to get rid of him. Leading Deerclops into Adult treeguard and forcing him to attack (as Deerclops do AOE dmg) will result into battle between each other. Once one boss kills other one, you can finish him up. This also aplies to bearger. Birch trees and Poisonous Birch trees Birch tree: Drops same ammount of logs as Evergreen, but instead pine cones drops birchnut seeds. Seeds can be cooked and used in crock pot for trail mix[dont-starve-game.wikia.com] or eaten directly. Only large birchnut tree drops birchnut seeds, and only in autumn drops 2 seeds. Large Birch tree drops no seeds during winter and only one seed in spring and summer. These are ideal only in early/middle autumn and because you're Woodie relying on replanting trees, you should think about replacing them with pine cones (Evergreens) instead in late autumn/early winter. Choping birch trees (which is recomended for birchnut seeds) might wake up angered (poisonous) birch trees. Unlike Treeguards, they don't move and don't attack by themselves. Instead, they are protected by tentacle (one tentacle per Poisonous Birch tree) and they will spawn groups of birchnutters, who goes after you and jumps in close range. Birchnutters has 60% chance to drop twig and 40% chance to drop birchnut seed upon kill. Unlike treeguards, you cannot use weapons on this poisonous birchnut. Instead, other characters have to chop it 12 times with axe, meanwhile Woodie only 9 times with Lucy and only 6 times in beaver form. Killing them will drop 1-2 Living logs (digging the stump drops another living log) + some Birchnuts and rarely Nightmare fuel (20%). I have made video guide how to fight with them as Woodie + his Beaver version, please excuse terrible quality.
特别感谢Mr.YumYum提供此信息。
