Learn how to pick the right staff at the right moment, and what traits are desirable vs undesirable. Written for v 0.69 The Basics Roles, Levels and Traits RolesEvery one of your staff members has a level in up to four roles: 1. Server Serves customers drinks and food.
Takes orders from table guests. books guests' rooms. 2. Chef Cooks food from grill, soup pot and bread oven.

Gets food from larder. uses food window to present food to servers. 3. Janitor Cleans the floor and cleans objects.

Polishes the floor. 4. Dogsbody Stores ordered goods in the Larder,

grabs new barrels for the tap, repairs objects. maintains fires and cooling. Note: There is a fifth role, the Generalist. Your staff does not have levels in that role. They will act like all roles, or just the roles you've selected in the work schedule. Staff levels simplified Staff bonuses from skill level increase linearly with levels. You can think of it like a scale from 0-300, with 100 representing the start of level 2 and 200 representing the start of level 3. This means a staffer with 0 skill in level 2 serving will perform the same as a perfect level 1 server. Circumstances decide whether you want to hire the lvl 1 or the lvl 2 staffer. This depends on your income, whether you have a level 2 staffroom available and the reduced hours a level 2 staffer works, as well as the uniform skill level you'd like to go for. Generally you want to only hire staff that have close to 80% skill in a level category. Level 1
Every staff member has a level in a certain role. These effect task speeds and uniform bonuses. Broadly these are: level Effects level 1 Role at 0% at 100% Server 0% customer service satisfaction 50% customer service satisfaction Chef -10% satisfaction for cooked 0.5-star meals -15% satisfaction for cooked 1-star meals -30% satisfaction for cooked 2-star meals -45% satisfaction for cooked 3-star meals 15% chance to contaminate meals (make patrons sick) +8% satisfaction for cooked 1-star meals -22% satisfaction for cooked 2-star meals -45% satisfaction for cooked 3-star meals 5% chance to contaminate meals (make patrons sick) Janitor 0% cleaning speed 167% cleaning speed Dogsbody 0% maintain speed -65% repair speed +167% maintain speed +10% repair speed At each skill level, bonuses for wearing a uniform (assigning them a role) vary. Be aware that if you want to hire a staff member for just 1 role at a time, you're wasting the skill bonus portion of each level over 80%, as skill cannot go over 100% and skill points do not carry over onto a new level. This means a 99% server and an 80% server will perform the exact same. Some are good, some are bad. Trait tier list: S-tier
Fast Worker: Makes your staff walk way faster at all times. This is especially good for servers, janitors and dogsbodies as they walk around a lot. influencer: Makes others around them happy as long as they are. Very good as a happiness aura worker. I would take a bad Influencer server all day. A-tier Quick Burner: Makes your staff walk way faster until they get tired. This is when you wanna get the next shift in anyway. This is especially good for servers, janitors and dogsbodies as they walk around a lot. content: can't get these fellas angry. Not super useful unless in combo with Influencer, then it's god tier. Also a good pick if you don't want to/can build them a proper staffroom, or if you're overclocking them. ♥♥♥♥-tierSlowpoke: The opposite of fast worker. Cancel each other out. This will make you lose a lot of income in impatient patrons running out. Messy: Spreads dirt everywhere they go. You will need an extra janitor to mop up after them. Fire risk. Blows your service score. AVOID. Ticking Time bomb: Destroys your tavern every once in a while. Will cost you a lot of money. filthy: same as messy, but spreads smell that impacts happiness. A dogsbody is OK with this. Wants to sleep in darkness: You have to take 2 of these people or you're just building extra (dark) rooms to put these workers in. The rest of your staff want light when sleeping. Clumsy: constantly drops stuff when walking from one place to the other. A clumsy Chef or Janitor is fine, they don't carry around stuff normally. A clumsy Dogsbody is just a wasted hire. Deep Sleeper: clean their rooms while they sleep, they don't mind. There's usually someone else to do emergency stuff anyway. Not your puppet: it's either here or in don't-matter. I micromanage a lot in the early game, this locks you out of it. Once your tavern runs smoothly though, this traits starts not to matter as much. don't matter-tier Dark vision: You want light for your patrons. This does basically nothing. Unless you're using them as a dogbody at the back of the tavern just hauling stuff from one place to your larder, and banning them from the taproom. Fear of the dark: same as darkvision, just put up some lights. A dogsbody is OK with this. cold tolerant: You normally put heaters in your staff rooms anyway. easily bored: can be detrimental in the early-midgame but after that you're always too low on staff for them to get bored. dirt dodger: unless you're playing the Orc story this doesn't matter. You want the dirt to be out anyway. never hire a dirt dodger janitor though squeamish: just keep your tavern clean dude. Don't hire squeamish janitors. easily bribed: can be A-tier for early game uses, but you want to keep your staff happy and your coffers filled anyway so this one tends not to matter. Night Owl-tierNight owl is a special beast. You should basically only hire night-owl workers to work night shifts. This allows you to not mess up your schedule and get a night team together. The added benefit of this is that you need half the normal amount of beds, since beds can be shared between 'normal' workers and night owls, who go to bed when the day shift starts.
