Whether you're a new or returning player, sticking to F2P or building your way to membership, this guide will help you optimize your gear on the F2P section of the game. Introduction Although the F2P section of the game is rather limited, there's still a decent amount of gear to be found in there. This guide is made to list the best items and utilities one can use in F2P. For each slot per combat class, including hybrid + all, I will list items that are well worth wearing. Note that this does not only imply the best items, but also near best items that may be used as substitute, down to items with good stats and easy availability. It will also include items offering a certain bonus the most. While this guide is mainly aimed for combat purposes, it will also list a handful of tools and utilities that are noteworthy. This guide will be updated as content is released and introduces new items worthy on the list. Summary Items are presented in sections fitting their slot and role. Items grouped together have similar strengths. This won't go into technical details of all items presented. I've compiled these in another document available via Google Docs[docs.google.com]. For more official supported sources, I would recommend the official Runescape wiki[runescape.wiki]. Melee Melee equipment contains several options ranging from upgraded rune equipment, Gud equipment and F2P's most strongest equipment: Corrupt dragon. While corrupt dragon is arguably the strongest equipment to use, it comes at a cost that each equipment can only be worn up to 30 minutes before degrading to dust. Often these are only used for important situations. For any other cases, Gud equipment, gravite weaponry and rune +3 equipment will do just fine. There are also some niche options such as rune god equipment to maximize prayer bonus, Silverlight (with dual-wield, high levels and against specific demons) and rune defenders for dual-wield + shield setups. Dungeoneering features the argonite equipment. There's also the magic shieldbow (sighted), providing the longest range of 9 tiles in F2P. Unfortunately, it has no proper arrows to support its tier, meaning it will do less damage than it is capable. Diamond bolts are in a similar case. While available at tier 60, there's no crossbow to support this tier, meaning these bolts will drop in damage due weapon scaling. Dungeoneering features the gallileather, thigat and argonite equipment. Its primary equipment ranges between gravite, mystic and battle robes. Whereas mystic are the standard tier 50 equipment, battle robes have an edge by being PvP equipment, thus carrying a power bonus. They do however degrade and repairing them requires participation in the multiplayer Fist of Guthix mini-game (if that were the case if it wasn't for the non-degradation bug present in F2P). For combat spells, F2P have access up to blast spells. However, much like with ranged, not all weapons properly support all spells. Fire blast is a spell from tier 59, but no weapon outside dungeoneering supports this, so its damage scales down to that of fire bolt. Take note what weapon and spell combination you're using as you might be wasting runes if chosen poorly. Dungeoneering features the soulbell and thigat equipment. There's little to no reason to use this combat class, but I won't stop you if you ever want to attempt to beat Hermod in F2P (yes, that is possible). Head Deathwarden hood Body Deathwarden robe top Legs Deathwarden robe bottom Hands Deathwarden gloves Feet Deathwarden boots Cape Deathstorm drape Main-hand weapon Death guard Off-hand weapon Skull lantern Hybrid / All Hybrid has several sets with notable set effects that can be of use if you happen to have them. Primarily warpriest of Tuska and ghost hunter equipment are good sets to use as replacement for class-specific equipment, with the latter primarily when fighting ghost-like enemies. There are also several other pieces of equipment that are useful to complement your setup, whether they boost a certain stat even more than any other equipment or provide unique effects. Though. it is advised to limit yourself to the higher tiers of equipment for general purpose, such as the explorer's ring 4 and amulet of zealots, as low tier equipment are more aimed for niche applications. Hybrid capes can offer higher bonuses than class-specific capes (drapes), though most of them are time-gated behind an account age of at least 5 years. Some of these tools can be upgraded and as such one is stronger than the other. Often you want to have the best tool at hand or in your toolbelt for the job. While tools are necessary, elite outfits are optional but can provide powerful bonuses. Unfortunately, they are locked behind the members-only skill invention. This primarily covers healing items, prayer restorations and skill boosts. Most food is able to restore a fixed amount of health, though some food recover a percentage based on your maximum health. With high enough maximum health, percentage based healing can surpass flat healing. Expensive spices can provide even more health recovered. Restoring prayer points is primarily done at altars, but consumables like prayer potions and cheesecake can assist on the go. When bones are involved, the twisted bird skull necklace can allow them to restore prayer points as well.
