If you struggle to beat the gungeon, fear not! Here are some tips to help you fail a little bit less Nr. 1: They see me rolling, they hating Disclaimer: While my knowledge of the english language is abundant, it is not my mother tongue. Mistakes can be made and will probably be made. If you find any mistakes you are allowed to keep them. While the dodge roll is one of your most important tools, I highly recommend using it as a last ditch move to evade incoming bullets. Rolling excessively will leave you more vulnerable than before. Why roll on this dirty floor, which nobody has cleaned in hundreds of years when you can simply take a step aside? Keep the cleanliness of your clothing in mind! Side-stepping will be more important than rolling. Believe me. Nr. 2: If you know your enemy... In order to effectively side-step and leave your enemies in utter disbelieve how their perfectly aimed bullet just flew past you, you have to learn your enemies attack patterns. What attacks do they use? What trajectory do this bullets follow? Where are the gaps you can use to avoid being killed? A terrifying new enemy can be reduced to the danger level of a small puppy, as soon as you know how they fight. If you know your enemy and you know yourself, you will not need to fear the result of a hundred battles! "Sunzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and than he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor." Nr. 3: Reloading is for the weak "Are you tired of reloading your weapons? Don't you hate it when you have to wait to be able to shoot again? Those magazines are too small and you keep losing them? And just throwing bullets at enemies is not as effective? Well, worry not, because with passive reloading you can reload AND keep on firing." "Wow, John, that sounds amazing. But how does it work?" "Well, I'm glad you are asking, Abby. Let me tell you. If you have more than one weapon you can use passive reloading. Once your clip is empty, just switch to the other gun. While you keep shooting your enemies, the other gun reloads." "Oh my god. This is really amazing, John. How exactly does it work?" "Well, Abby, it is as simple as it gets. The weapon reloads exactly as fast as if you would do it manually. You don't even have to empty it completely. And the best part: It has absolutely no downside." Get it? Weapon empty, put weapon away, use other weapon, keep shooting, while the other gun reloads. Its not rocket science. Maybe if you use rocket launchers, but that is another story. Nr. 4: There are three types of weapons When entering the gungeon, you will find a lot of weapons. I mean, a lot. A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of weapons. You can't really imagine how many weapons there are. There are so many weapons that... okay, I stop already. Despite the huge amount of weapons, there are exactly three types of weapons. Useless weapons, floor-cleaning weapons and boss-killing weapons. Useless weapons are things like the Trashcannon, the pea shooter or the klobbe. Floor-cleaning weapons are for example the hegemony rifle, the standard weapons, the wind up gun and generally every gun with a good damage outpout and good magazine size. Usable over a longer period of time, while dispatching reasonably fast of most enemies. Boss-killing weapons are where the fun begins. Some floor-cleaning weapons might also qualify for killing bosses, but normally you want to bring the big guns for the big guys. Railguns, the AU-gun, Commando. Everything that deals a lot of damage and would be wasted on everything smaller than the biggest of the baddies. Small note: Gunther is the best weapon. Period. Nr. 5: Mimics. Mimics everywhere. Rule of thumb: If you find a chest, shoot it once with your standard gun. If it moves, kill it. If it stays still, shoot a second time. You never know. Just make sure not to break it. You don't want to be responsible for the death of a small, innocent chest. Unless it is a brown chest and you can't get anymore keys on that floor. Never waste keys on a brown chest. Never! On a different note: Any item that grants you access to all chests is good. Even the mimic tooth necklace. If you can get an Akey-47, get it. "Someone told a joke. We laughed, the barkeeper laughed, the table laughed, we killed the table. Good times." AG&D Addendum: Apparently mimics are now literally everywhere. The walls, the pedestal at the end of a boss fight, maybe even your shoe, who knows? Tread carefully, gungeoneers. Nr. 6: Try. Fail. Try again. If you die, do not despair. Just try again. And again. And again. And again. You get the idea. If it takes you five hours to beat the first floor for the first time, don't be disappointed in yourself. Be happy that you made it this far. The game is not meant to be easy and does not take you by the hand. While not being a Dark Souls, it if fairly challenging. But believe me. One day, the bullets will stop firing. One day, you will make it to floor 5 with ease just to die by falling down a pit you didn't saw because you were concentrating on dodging the bullets... on some days your own reflection seems to be mocking you... Anyway, cheer up, love! It will get better! You will get better! Now get your ass back down there and kill those f*ckers again! They shoot you, you shoot them. Don't ever let yourself be defeated! Nr. 7: Defense over offense To beat the gungeon it might be a good idea to stay alive until the end. As you all know, people die when they are killed. Always focus on your defense. Not getting hit is better than scoring hits. If you have to stop firing to concentrate on evading, do it. If you don't hit every shot, because you pay attention to not ending up as a macabre copy of swiss cheese, then so be it. Watch your character, be aware of enemy bullets and always remember: A good offense is based upon a stronger defense. There is no sense to defeat your foes in the shortest amount of time when you take dozens of hits during the fight. You are not a tank. You're a damage-dealer. Nr. 8: All your secrets are belong to us Blanks open secret rooms, hidden behind cracked walls. If you see a cracked wall, use a blank and be happy that you just found a treasure just to be devastated when its a brown chest with health in it plus more health...♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The fire place on the first floor can be extinguished using water and behind that you will find a hidden lever which opens a hidden room leading to a hidden floor. You need two keys to unlock the hidden floor. There you will find a crest, which you can put on the altar on floor 2 to open yet another hidden passage leading to another hidden floor. The weird room on floor 3 with the floating mine carts has invisble railways. Dodge-roll from cart to cart to cross the pit. And always remember, enemies can become friends, robots are living beings and hell awaits. Nr. 9: Be an a**hole Let your inner d*uchebag free! Embrace your a**hole-self! Kick helmets down the edge, just for the fun of it! Kick tables into pits, because nobody can tell you what to do (except this guide)! Shoot the shopkeeper! Use a lead potion to let the wallmonger kill himself! Endless possibilites! Nr. 10: More synergieeeeees AG&D Addendum: Have you ever picked up a gun and see a little blue arrow pop up? Worry not, dear citizen, you have just been blessed. With a synergy that is! See, when two weapons/items really love each other than sometimes a new, better weapon/item appears. That is called a synergy. AG&D boosted this fun little part of the game and made it more apparent which weapons/items boost each other. So, have fun, experiment a little and maybe even the smallest pea shooter can turn into something great.

All the information you need about shortcuts, what you need to unlock them, how to use them, and some other spoilery things. How to unlock shortcuts The first step to unlocking shortcuts is to play the game like normal until the Sherpa (blue man with a round head) shows up in the Gungeon. After talking to him in the Gungeon you need to go to the Breach and talk to him again in the lower right area. He will now show up in the elevator shafts left by the bullet elevators at the start of each chamber. He starts on chamber two, you will be able to tell which chamber he is in by a yellow sign on the wall above the hole. You will now need to bring him the items detailed below in any order, although he will ask for them in the order listed. Each individual requirement must be met completely at one time, no bringing him half of a requirement one run and the other half on another. Multiple requirements can be met in a single run. After bringing him everything he needs on a chamber a shortcut to that chamber will be unlocked in the room in the lower right part of the Breach. If you talk to him after unlocking the shortcut you will unlock a new item and he will move on to the next chambers elevator shaft where you can repeat the process with more demanding requirements. Chamber 2 Requirement 1: 3 Blanks (Found in many places, start each floor with two) Requirement 2: 3 Keys & 120 Casings (More info below) Requirement 3: 10 Hegemony Credits (Earned by killing bosses) Requirement 4: Master Round, First Chamber (Kill the first boss without taking damage) Unlock: Gunboots (Shoot bullets backwards when you dodge) Chamber 3 Requirement 1: 3 Armor (Found in many places, Marine starts with one.) Requirement 2: 4 Keys & 180 Casings (More info below) Requirement 3: 15 Hegemony Credits (Earned by killing bosses) Requirement 4: Master Round, Second Chamber (Kill the second boss without taking damage) Unlock: R2G2 (Follows you around and shoots at bulletkin) Chamber 4 Requirement 1: 4 Junk (Chance to drop after breaking a chest) Requirement 2: 5 Keys & 240 Casings (More info below) Requirement 3: 20 Hegemony Credits (Earned by killing bosses) Requirement 4: Master Round, Third Chamber (Kill the third boss without taking damage) Unlock: Gungine (Automatic gun that increases move speed when held) Chamber 5 & Boss Rush Requirement 1: 6 Full Heart Containers, does not take them away (Kill bosses without getting hit) Requirement 2: 6 Keys & 300 Casings (More info below) Requirement 3: 25 Hegemony Credits (Earned by killing bosses) Requirement 4: Master Round, Fourth Chamber (Kill the fourth boss without taking damage) Unlock: AKEY-47 (An AK-47 that fires keys capable of unlocking things like regular keys) How to earn more keys & casings The three most important things. Never use keys and only spend casings on keys if you really have to. Play pilot so you can buy cheaper keys and get items without using keys. Finally go to both secret chambers for more drops. The first secret chamber can be accessed on chamber one by rolling a water barrel into a fire place which opens a secret room with a trap door in it. You will need to open two locks to open the trap door, the lockpick can be used to save keys but if it jams you will need to restart the run. The second secret chamber requires you to bring a piece of special armor from the first secret chamber to an alter on the second chamber. If you get hit while holding the armor it will break so you should wait until you complete the first secret chamber before picking it up. It's also useful to sell any items you do not need to survive by dropping them in to the floor grate that can spawn in shops. Passive items can be dropped by clicking on them on your map screen then clicking drop in the top left. Junk and master rounds can be sold. Other than that make sure to look for secret rooms and avoid being hit since enemies that have hit you will not drop casings. Other Info You can access the shortcuts you have unlocked by going to the room in the bottom right of the Breach and using the buttons on the floor to select the chamber then walking in to the elevator. If you have unlocked the chamber five shortcut you will also have access to an elevator that takes you to boss rush. You must pay the Sherpa 3 Hegemony Credits each time you wish to use the boss rush elevator, the first time is free. If you take the shortcut to chamber three or higher a very generous "man" will have a selection of three weapons for you. On chamber three you can take one of the weapons, on chamber four you get two, and on chamber 5 you get to take all three. Thank you to all the people in the comments that have corrected problems with the guide or asked questions about things I forgot to mention in the guide.

Are you curious about the secrets of the Gungeon, but you don't know where to look and you don't want complete spoilers? This guide gives incremental hints about some of the most popular secret unlockables: secret floors and secret gungeoneers . Read as many hints as you wish, and the full solution is given at the end for each unlockable! The information is hidden with hover-cursor-to-read spoiler text for you to not see any more than you want. Tags: spoiler-free , no spoilers , hint , tip , nudge , secret, unlock, access, walkthrough Secret Unlockable Gungeoneers The game currently has 5 more gungeoneers that you can unlock on top of the original 4. Among them, the Cultist is essentially unlocked already while the others are far more challenging. 1 - The Cultist As previously mentioned, this character begins unlocked, but is not always playable. They do have their own story and Past Kill, although it doesn't work the same way as the others. "Unlock" Hint: You cannot play this character on your own, you will need the help of a friend. "Unlock" Solution: The Cultist only appears as Player 2 when playing in Co-Op Mode. Past Kill Hint: You probably noticed that the Blacksmith doesn't give the Cultist the Bullet that can Kill the Past. Once again, you will need your friend to step in. Past Kill Solution: After defeating the High Dragun and Player 1 obtains the Gun that can Kill the Past from the chest, they can shoot the Cultist with it instead of themselves. 2 - The Bullet Unlocking this character will most likely require several trips through the Gungeon. Unlock Hint 1: Before anything else, you need to have successfully killed the past of one of the first 4 characters. Unlock Hint 2: This character will sometimes be encountered in the Gungeon! However, they are found with only 8-25% chance, more likely in the lower floors. Be careful not to mistake them for someone else, say an enemy. You don't have to talk to them, but you'll need to find them a few times. Unlock Hint 3: Have you noticed that on occasion a specific "enemy" appears among the others, but does not attack you at all no matter what? Be sure to return the favor and spare them too. A few times, actually. You don't really have to do anything until they leave on their own. Unlock Hint 4: This specific "enemy" wears a red cape and wields a simple gun. You (eventually) need to run into them 5 times. Unlock Solution: The character is a red caped bullet kin that appears alone or within a group of other bullet kin. They are found with only 8-25% chance, more likely in the lower floors. They will run around but not attack the gungeoneers. Don't attack them and wait until they teleport away. You will need to do this 5 times in total before the Bullet shows up in the Breach, "sleeping" at the left of the Pilot. 3 - The Robot This character can be unlocked in a single run, even though it may take a few tries. Unlock Hint 1: The character requires some (re-)assembly. The good news is that you only have 1 part to find. The bad news is you will also have to find someone to do the repairs. Unlock Hint 2: The required part always appears, and always in the same room, as a by-product of something you might have fixed before. This is not a room you need to visit much. The person to fix it can also be found always, and at the same place every time, although not on the same floor as the part. Unlock Hint 3: Have you ever tried jumping after an elevator after it leaves? You don't get damage, but you end up in a special room. Unlock Hint 4: The first elevator shaft you can jump in contains some junk item that may be of interest (but are not called "junk"). You may also run into someone trying to fix the elevator there (The Tinker). To find the junk item of interest, you need to help the Tinker once. Unlock Hint 5: Sadly, the Tinker character only fixes elevators, and not the robot. You will need to take the part you find to a very skilled craftsman. Unlock Hint 6: Or perhaps, a craftswoman? Like one working deep within the gungeon? Yes, you have to somehow carry that item quite far. Unlock Solution: Find the Busted Television in the first elevator room at Gungeon Proper, after unlocking the first shortcut. Take it to the Blacksmith in the Forge, who will fix the robot. This is of course, a challenge, given that the item will drop with every dodge roll. You may want to consider throwing it across pits and also not picking it up before clearing the Gungeon Proper. 4 - The Paradox Unlocking this character takes one run, if you find everything you need. Unlock Hint 1: Before anything else, you need to have successfully killed the past of one of the first 4 characters. Unlock Hint 2: As the name suggests, there is something uncanny about this character. It requires you to find and interact with something uncanny too (and then keep on playing a full run). It does not always appear and you may not realize that you can actually interact with it by pressing "e". Unlock Hint 3: If you've been to the Forge, you've seen this phenomena before. However, it is much rarer on higher floors. It is anomalous, in fact, and that is why you can interact with it if you come across it on a higher floor. After you pick it up, you will know. You will need to carry it on you, all the way to the past... Unlock Solution: As said in the official wiki page[enterthegungeon.gamepedia.com]: The method to unlock the Paradox can only be accessed after killing at least one Past. In the Gungeon Proper, Black Powder Mine and the Hollow, there is a 20% chance that a cosmic rift will appear in a random room, which the player can walk into and interact with to receive a paradox effect. Killing the boss after the Dragun (like in the past) with the effect active will unlock The Paradox. Multiple cosmic rifts can appear in one run, and they can also appear during a Rainbow Run. 5 - The Gunslinger This character is likely to be the hardest to unlock. Unlock Hint 1: You need to have unlocked a previous secret character AND a secret floor, which requires at the very least defeating the Dragun. In fact, the full unlock will require defeating this boss many times. Unlock Hint 2: Unlocking the character involves messing with the temporal laws of the universe, while already in an exceptionally arcane place... Unlock Hint 3: You need to play as the Paradox, and go to the secret 6th Chamber... and then beyond... Unlock Hint 4: This character is troubled by their past like the others, and will not rest until he defeats it. Unlock Solution: Defeat the final boss in Bullet Hell as the Paradox. This begins a new run where you play as the Gunslinger. You need to go through the run and defeat the character's past to unlock them permanently. Secret Floor Access The Gungeon normally seems to have 5 floors. However, you may be delighted to find out that there are in addition 5 secret floors! Each of them is accessed from a different regular floor, but starting the run on that floor alone may not be enough... 1 - The Oubliette Access Hint 1: The Oubliette is below the Keep of the Lead Lord. It is accessed through a secret room with a secret entrance. Access Hint 2: Have you noticed a particular room that appears in every run through the Keep? It contains a hidden area... Access Hint 3: You will need water, perhaps from a gun, perhaps not... Access Hint 4: Water barrels can be found around the Keep, (and always in this room too upon entering the secret floor once). After the water is applied, the secret switch to the secret area can be accessed. You may notice a change in the map. By the way, do you have any keys? Access Solution: Use a water barrel (roll it over) / water gun / goop gun on the fireplace with a large painting over it. The fire will extinguish and the grate will drop. Behind the fireplace is a secret switch, flicked by pressing "e" on the back wall of the fireplace. The Oubliette entrance will be revealed as a new room extending from a random room on the floor. The trapdoor entrance has two locks that need to be opened. Afterwards, jump in! 2 - The Abbey of the True Gun Access Hint 1: The Cult of the Gundead is ancient and has its fair share of secrets, such as a hidden old abbey below the Gungeon Proper. As a cult, their entrance to the Abbey has a bit of a ritual to it, requiring a special (but fragile) item... Access Hint 2: Once again, be on the lookout for a unique room that always appears. The entrance is there. The key however, can only be found on the previous secret floor, where it will always appear... Access Hint 3: This old and fragile key will need to be carried to the entrance without the gungeoneer taking any damage. The good news is that you can prepare such that you don't face any bosses on the way. Access Hint 4: The key is not key-shaped and can be used as a functional item (sometimes involuntarily). The "keyhole" is no keyhole either, more like a small pedestal... Access Solution: Find the Old Crest in the Oubliette. It is best to clear the floor before picking it up, because it will break if you get hit, even if you get additional armor. Take it to the long room in the Gungeon Proper with statues of old bullet warriors. The crest can be placed on the altar at the back of the room, revealing the secret stairs to the Abbey. 3 - The Resourceful Rat's Lair Access Hint 1: The secret entrance is somewhere in the Black Powder Mine. You will need 2-3 blanks and 2 keys, one of which is special (this time it is key-shaped). You need to have reached a gungeoneer's past at least once before finding them. Access Hint 2: The clue to both the key and the secret door is rats... Access Hint 3: You will need to think like a rat, who gnaws at things and runs around with the other rats. Access Hint 4: You can purchase the key on a previous floor (or -more fittingly- steal it!). After the hidden door is revealed and entered, you will need to travel a bit and find another secret room, hidden in a typical way. You may need to do this a few times before finding the true entrance. However, the challenge only begins here... Access Solution: Buy or steal the Gnawed Key from the shop in Gungeon Proper. You can pay over multiple runs, and the price will be fixed at 115 shells after the first purchase. In the Black Powder Mine, find the (random) room filled with rats. Use water, or run around in the dusty areas until a hidden trapdoor is revealed from under the dust. Use a regular key (or equivalent) to open this door. In the tunnel below, take the minecart or walk until near the end (be careful not to fall). You can create/see a cracked wall there. Use a blank to open wall, and subsequent cracked walls you will encounter beyond the first one. Finally, the Gnawed Key can be used to open the trapdoor to the lair. After-Access Hint: The Rat leaves you some notes after grabbing the items you leave around. The different notes can be reviewed in the Ammonomicon. 4 - The R&G Dept Access Hint 1: The secret entrance to this floor appears in the Hollow, although it is normally used for something else. The room is not guaranteed to appear unless you came from a previous floor and carry at least 1 of a special item you won along the way. You don't need to wait for lucky drops to win this item. Access Hint 2: Often you will need to defeat the Hollow's boss (although sometimes you might encounter the secret entrance before that). In addition, you will need to defeat at least one previous floors' boss, and even that may not be enough by itself. Access Hint 3: A particular "shop" can be found near the Forge elevator if you did everything right so far (and if it did not appear elsewhere sooner). If you make very generous transactions there, say, involving any two items and one hard-earned special kind of passive item, the shopkeeper may take a special liking to you. Access Hint 4: This "shopkeeper" does not sell any items or guns. Also, much as you may not want to part with them, passive items can be dropped on the map screen by selecting them and clicking the "drop" button that appears in the corner. Access Solution: You will need to enter the floor with a Master Round (acing the Hollow boss might also work but I am not sure the shop will then appear). By the Forge elevator (or elsewhere on the floor), you will encounter the Sell Creep. Drop to him any two items (even junk). Drop more if you want the money. Finally, drop a Master Round. The grateful Creep will blast open the grate to let you into the secret floor. 5 - The 6th Chamber: Bullet Hell Access Hint 1: You will need to kill your past, more than once... Access Hint 2: After killing the pasts of the first 4 gungeoneers, defeat the Dragun once more. Beating the Gungeon so many times will anger somebody... Access Hint 3: Now why not try to defeat the past yet again? Access Solution: After killing the pasts of the first 4 gungeoneers, defeat the Dragun once more with any character and head to the Aimless Void below (you don't need to visit the Blacksmith). Head towards The Gun That Can Kill The Past. You will see. (Unique) Secret Rooms As Ser Manuel once told you, Secret Rooms can be found using blanks (or equivalents) on cracked walls. However, you usually need to make the cracks yourself after finding the right wall, with a gun that does not have infinite ammo. Secret Rooms can be almost anywhere on a floor. There can be none or multiple, depending on the circumstances. They are most often connected to treasure rooms. You may want to use a Map or Brick Cash to help too. Secret rooms may contain NPC's, notes, traps, chests, etc. There are three unique secret rooms on the following floors: -Floor: Gungeon Proper (does not always appear (?). The secret entrance is on only the left or right wall of a room.) Contents Hint: Unique NPC's and a special new gun with its own chest. -Floor: Abbey of the True Gun (always appears) Contents Hint: A unique NPC and their chest. -Floor: Bullet Hell (always appears) Contents Hint: An unusual kind of gun-eater.
